In April 2016, the European Polytechnical University (EPU) through the Center for Personal Development and Qualification (a part of EPU), which is a service unit according to Art. 25, para. 3 of the Higher Education Act, organized a course for acquiring a professional qualification "teacher" according to the curriculum, meeting the requirements of the Ordinance on the Unified State Requirements for Acquiring the Professional Qualification "Teacher", adopted by Decree of the Council of Ministers No 162 of 1997, promulgated in the State Gazette No. 34 of 25.04.1997, which defines the uniform state requirements for the acquisition of a "teacher" professional qualification by persons with higher education.
In October 2016, in view of the expected changes in the legal framework and the adopted by the Decree of the Council of Ministers № 289 of 07.11.2016 ORDINANCE on the State Requirements for Acquiring the Professional Qualification "Teacher" - SG, No. 89 of 11 November 2016, which entered into force from the academic year 2017/2018, a contract for joint academic activity and training for the qualification upgrading of specialists with higher education under Art. 21 para. 1 of the Higher Education Act was signed with Veliko Tarnovo University "St. Cyril and Methodius "(VTU). Under the contract, the Italian students were trained and their certificates for the acquisition of a professional qualification "teacher" were issued by the University of Veliko Tarnovo.
