Bachelor's Program in Engineering Design

Bachelor's Program in Engineering Design

The Bachelor's program in Engineering Design is a unique blend of engineering, art, and creativity, centered around the development of innovative products and labor-saving devices, as well as the creation of interconnected systems with a strong emphasis on practical applications, aesthetics, and functionality.

The program's primary objective is to equip students with the skills to design high-value products that can compete effectively in the global market. It particularly focuses on energy-related areas, such as energy efficiency and sustainable energy sources, to contribute to the advancement of Sustainable Development goals. Students will be trained to take an analytical approach, follow a structured design process, and ultimately produce experimental prototypes of their projects.

The curriculum follows a progressive learning model, where students gain a solid understanding of fundamental concepts and acquire expertise in generating fresh solutions to real-world consumer challenges.

Our innovative training methodology nurtures highly qualified engineering specialists, empowering them to excel in various industrial sectors. Additionally, it fosters their ability to tackle unique projects that require a personalized approach while considering energy efficiency and ecological balance in the production processes.

Throughout their studies, students will delve into core engineering subjects, including:
mathematics, physics, chemistry, management, advertising, informatics, and mechatronics. Moreover, they will explore three-dimensional design concepts, color science, emotional impact, ergonomics, and anthropometry.

The program encompasses various thematic design assignments, offering insights into two- and three-dimensional design in diverse fields such as graphic design, advertising product design, spatial design for domestic and production environments, household product design, short-run and bespoke product design, and clothing and accessory design.

To enhance specialization, the curriculum offers optional modules in specific engineering design areas, including design for advertising products and corporate branding, living and production environment design, fashion design with a focus on style, design for children's environments, industrial and technology-bound product and system design, and vehicle and system design.

Our graduates will possess a comprehensive skill set, enabling them to work in diverse energy-related fields, particularly in the design and implementation of two- and three-dimensional products and systems. They can pursue careers as industrial design consultants, educators, researchers, and representatives in various governmental and non-governmental organizations. Alternatively, they may choose to become entrepreneurs and establish their ventures.

Upon completing the "Engineering Design" bachelor's program, our students will be well-equipped with the following:

  • Solid foundational knowledge in mechanical engineering, technology, and electrical engineering.

  • Profound understanding of the impact of form, plasticity, and color configurations on user experience and their application in product and system projects.

  • Competence in the formulation and analysis of user problems during the design process, considering technical, technological, economic, and marketing aspects.

  • Familiarity with user experience research, industrial design development, European policies and standards, and patent legislation.

Our graduates will be adept at:

  • Applying design solutions that address user challenges, using appropriate modeling, simulation, and optimization methods for renewable energy sources.

  • Evaluating energy, economic, and construction aspects of projects related to renewable and conventional energy sources and conducting research in this domain.

  • Collaborating in interdisciplinary and international teams to develop market-oriented products with competitive designs.

  • Utilizing theoretical and applied knowledge to solve real-world problems, develop strategies, plans, and projects, and contribute to innovative designs.

  • Establishing productive connections with local and international partners.

  • Efficiently planning and managing their careers.

  • Conducting independent research using various scientific and practical resources.

At our university, we implement the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), ensuring that credits earned by our students at other institutions are fully recognized. This system promotes transparency and facilitates connections between academic institutions, broadening our students' opportunities in choosing their academic path and field of study.

The "Engineering Design" program concludes with a thesis defense, and classes are conducted in multiple languages, including Bulgarian, Russian, English, and Italian.

The university campus is located in the picturesque town of Pernik, where students can choose between full-time and part-time study options.
